Taking place over three action packed day’s Wood fest Wales is as it sounds, an annual celebration of all things wood related. Even if the most you know about wood is that you need to mop your solid wood flooring at home, you will surely love this event held in Abergele, North Wales.
Set in around 20 acres of rolling parkland, not to mention the 50 acres set aside for car parking, Woodfest is easy to get to from all directions. Woodfest is a real family day out, with lots to see from chainsaw carving demonstrations to quad bikes for sale to logging demonstrations using Shire horses. There are also many trade stands, from those encouraging you to buy solid wood flooring to beautiful old fashioned and traditional solid wood furniture.
A real crowd puller is the Husqvarna Pole Climbing Championships where men and women who have (in my opinion anyway) more bottle than sense compete to see who can climb up a 25 metre pole in the fastest time. If this doesn’t appeal to you there are 6 other demonstration arenas to go and watch activities in such as Bird of Prey displays, burly men chainsaw carving and even axe racing!
The mountain bike challenge is always great to watch with riders attempting a tricky trials course, the tallest point of which is a narrow beam over which they ride at 11 metres off the ground. There is even a water jump so it’s best not to choose to sit in its immediate vicinity to have your picnic! Another incredibly difficult section is a Land Rover that they will have to get their bikes up and over.
For those of you who like things a little gentler and more artistic, this year there is to be a demonstration of how traditional solid wood framed buildings were made and still are today. Should you have any questions there will be some of the major timber framed building firms will be on hand to answer them.
Camping is available on site and you can stay over in a tent for a very reasonable price. However, it is not a good idea to camp unless you intend joining in with the party atmosphere and jollification that goes on every night of Woodfest. It isn’t really a place to camp with young children unless you manage to find a suitable area away from all the hubbub.
Woodfest Wales offer a variety of membership options so you may be able to get in for less money than you thought. Make no mistake though, once you are inside there is no telling how much money you will spend, whether it is on rides and ice creams for the kids or worse, you are persuaded to kit your house out in the very best solid wood flooring....
